Beating the credit crunch at Sheffield restaurants

We’ve no doubt all been cutting back on life’s little luxuries recently and in a bid to keep personal spending down a bit, many of us are eating out at restaurants less than we did last year.

However, a few Sheffield restaurants have put together special deals to help diners cope with the credit crunch, whilst still having the pleasure of enjoying a meal at their favourite restaurant.

Owners of Sheffield’s top restaurants Artisan and Catch, have reinvented one of their outlets yet again and this latest change should be of particular interest to lovers of fine food who are battling the effects of the credit crunch.   Formerly a seafood restaurant, Catch has now become Canteen and it will specialise in offering top quality food at top value prices. With dishes like king prawns with a sweet chilli sauce and braised duck leg with spicy carrot salad, Canteen promises to be a place filled with culinary delights, but to keep prices down, they have done away with fancy frills, choosing to focus just on the food.  At present, the menu has standard prices of £10 for two courses and £12 for three courses and children can eat for a fiver.

Following the Gordon Ramsay make over, Silversmiths restaurant have come up with a special ‘Pie Night’ on Tuesday evenings, plus a special set menu deal of three courses for £15, which is available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and is also an option instead of the a la carte menu on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Meanwhile, the Walnut Club on Ecclesall Road have a new offer that will allow customers to enjoy three course for the price of two from their £15 set menu, an offer which is available daily until the end of March, with the exception of Saturdays after 6pm.

Other Sheffield offers include a 2 for 1 deal at Cafe Guru on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays.
