Sheffield Food Festival

With just a few days to go before the action starts, the Sheffield Food Festival is set to serve up an enticing menu of events. It will be taking place between 4 – 10 July with a range of exciting activities happening across the city.
Events include everything from a demonstration with the chef of the Michelin starred Old Vicarage, to a market of food produced and grown right here in Sheffield, to classes in chocolate or cheese tasting, to an exhibition of sixteenth century cookbooks.
It’s about much more than enjoying fabulous gourmet food though and forms part of a wider piece of work at Sheffield City Council on the Food Plan which aims to tackle issues from access to healthy food in the city, to encouraging businesses and residents to support local food producers, to improving opportunities for community food growing in the city over the next three years.
Councillor Helen Mirfin-Boukouris, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, Jobs and Growth, Culture and Sport, said: “Sheffield Food Festival is bringing together over 100 organisations and is destined to attract over 40,000 visitors to the city in an array of fantastic events that will whet the appetite and stimulate the senses. This will bring the important work of the Food Plan alive, and I hope that as well as enjoying some wonderful tastes and experiences, people will come away having picked up new skills and knowledge to help them enjoy healthy food.”
It should be a fabulous time to head into the city to check out what is happening on the local food scene, pick up tips and ideas and sample some gourmet treats. We’re looking forward to seeing what the ‘pop up’ restaurants will offering and can’t wait to have a rummage through the festival market to find some new ingredients and local produce.
During the festival, Otto’s Restaurant on Sharrowvale Road have a new Moroccan mezze menu on offer, featuring 3 Moroccan mezze and a drink for £8. It will be available as an early bird option from 5.00 pm -7.00 pm from Monday 4th July to Saturday 9th July and all day Sunday 10th July from 1.00 pm – 10.00 pm.
