Happy New Year

January 21st, 2008 Cheffy

Happy New Year everyone! It’s a little late in January to be saying this I know, but it’s our first chance to say it, because we’ve just returned from gallivanting around the world on holiday.

Christmas Dinner in 2007 was a fantastic al fresco seafood meal at Quayside Seafood Restaurant in Singapore. Their black pepper crab was absolutely superb and washed down with a glass or two of nicely chilled dry white wine, it will be a Christmas meal that we’ll remember for a long time to come.

We hit upon one or two other little gems on our travels too.  In Australia, the Heritage Lodge was a fascinating dining experience. The food was great, but it was the wildlife that made it extra special. If we were joined by unexpected critters in a UK restaurant, we’d most likely have to make a swift phone call to the environmental health officer, but we had no such qualms in the rainforest and it was amazing to be joined for dinner by one of the local bandicoots, a few fruit bats and a cute little tree frog.

In Beijing we thought about trying the much hyped Green Tea House, but decided that £115 per person, excluding drinks was a touch over the top for a quick bite to eat. We were feeling a bit over indulged on Chinese food after two days anyway, so we headed to a place called Ganges where we enjoyed one of the best Indian meals we’ve ever tasted. A meal for two, with wine came to the princely sum of £20.

The joys of international cuisine unfortunately didn’t extend to the airline food, but you can’t have everything I suppose.
