Round four of Ramsay’s Best Restaurant 2010 saw Sheffield’s leading gastropub The Milestone go head to head with Michelin starred The West House in Biddenden.
We have no idea how they got the bus down into Kelham Island, but they clearly managed it somehow and after an initial wobble with their ordering and service strategy, The Milestone team pulled it all together and Gordon Ramsay’s 30 diners gave the thumbs to their food and dining experience. A burnt chip almost ruined the day when the mystery diner called in for lunch, but after the final round of cooking for a selection of the great and good in London, Gordon Ramsay confessed that this round was one of the hardest yet for him to judge, because the food turned out by each restaurant had been superb.
In the end, he decided to put The Milestone through to the semi final, to the great delight of the team.
It’s quite an accomplishment to take on a Michelin starred restaurant and emerge as the winner, so congratulations to The Milestone – keep up the good work and help to put Sheffield even more firmly on the culinary map.
The Milestone will now join the other three semi finalists, Bristol’s Casamia restaurant, Bradford’s tiny vegetarian wonder Prashad and Bolton’s Yu and You restaurant.
