Another gem in the West One complex in the centre of Sheffield, Las Iguanas is a Latin styled Restaurant.

It's part of a chain, but perhaps because of the distinctive and dramatic interior styling, it feels very individual. Before we even tried the food, we had to take off our hats to the architects of this place, as it really is impressive. The size of the place, together with the high ceilings and non-smoking restaurant policy make for a very pleasant dining experience.

Inexpensive nibbles including olives and bread are available to take the edge your hunger whilst you make decisions about the main courses. You can then select from a wide range of dishes from the traditional fajitas that you would expect, to some altogether more unusual dishes.

Las Iguanas

Starters range from brie and mango tortilla parcels to spiced meatballs with a smoked chilli salsa. Many of the dishes have exotic names and this adds to the fun of choosing. Mollettes is a very posh version of beans on toast - actually garlic and chilli bread with re-fried beans and cheese, whilst Pescado Frito is a crispy smoked haddock fish cake. Both were tasty and came on lovely warm plates.

For main courses, we tried Arroz Verduras which is described as 'an untraditional paella of fresh mixed vegetables'. It comes with a chilli kick, which was unexpected, but it really was delicious and is top of our list for Sheffield paella now.

Our other main course must have smelled so tantalising, that someone from a neighbouring table leaned over to enquire what it was. Known as Xinxim, it's apparently Pele's favourite and consists of chicken breast with a creamy Brazilian sauce of peanuts, crayfish & lime. It was perfectly cooked and delicious.

Las Iguanas doesn't offer haute cuisine, but it doesn't pretend to do that. It does offer a range of exciting dishes and if our experience is anything to go by, they are well prepared, tasty and well above the average chain restaurant standards.

The environment as you might expect at West One is alive with the happening buzz of city living. The bar staff show great flair in the cocktail department and a vast array of concoctions made their way to customers whilst we were there.

It's a great place for a casual and enjoyable night out- either as a couple or with friends.
